Web Design Trends for 2025: What Businesses Should Expect

Trends for 2025

Why Is Web Design Important In 2025?

As the business world becomes evermore internet based, traditional brick and mortar businesses are moving online. To stand out today businesses need to keep up with modern trends. Modern websites can increase conversion rates, user experience and ultimately the brand image.

Minimalist Design

Throughout 2024 we saw a shift towards minimalist design, a method called 'bento box' became increasingly popular with large brands. Being able to display information in a visually pleasing manner using cards that fit together like a jigsaw. To see the design theory in practice I have started updating my own work page to showcase previously done websites using the 'bento box' layout.

It seems that 2025 will continue in this trend, with clean navigation and an uncluttered interface leading the way.

Mobile-First Design

The improvements being made to mobile devices is increasing the boom in mobile users browsing the web. It is now a priority for almost all businesses to cater to mobile responsive designs. Tools like Lighthouse can help you test the usability of a site on mobile.

Dark Mode

Dark Mode is being embraced more and more by all different organisations. For example, Houghton Web Design displays a different colour scheme depending on your system preferences. It has become increasingly preferable design choice for users who seek to reduce eye strain, increase battery life or just prefer the UX. When done correctly it can produce an incredibly sleek and trendy website.

Dark Mode is here to stay for 2025 and beyond.

Speed and Performance

2025 promises to increase on the importance of fast-loading pages and seamless navigation. To explore more I have created a blog post tackling the importance of Performance.

The role of animation

Animations over the past 5-6 years became a staple for many people making websites. They were often used to animate content into view as you scroll down the page.

Trends are moving away from this, instead focusing on making animations work for you, rather than being implemented for the sake of having them. Subtle-animations and micro-interactions are being favoured, used as visual cues to guide the user on a journey of your website.

In Conclusion: How to prepare for 2025

Evaluate your website from the perspective of an end user, identifying any pain points along the way. From the first interaction to completing a conversion, ensure the process is smooth, intuitive, and fast. If your website feels outdated or sluggish, take action now.

Updating key aspects could significantly improve user experience and drive better results for your business.
